MOSCOW, Jun 22 (PRIME) -- The arbitration court in Paris has turned down a U.S. $14.5 billion claim by ex-senator Sergei Pugachyov, a beneficiary of defunct Mezhprombank, against Russia, the Justice Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
"It was announced on June 22 that after considering arguments by the Russian Federation, the arbitration turned down all claims of Pugachyov," the ministry said.
In 2015, the Moscow Arbitration Court ordered Pugachyov and other three top managers of the bank – Alexander Didenko, Alexei Zolobin, and Marina Illarionova – to repay 75.6 billion rubles jointly under a claim by the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA).
In 2017, Pugachyov filed an appeal to the Moscow Arbitration Court seeking revision of the deal as the only one judge of the court studied Mezhprombank’s bankruptcy case single-handedly instead of a collegial consideration. The court turned down the appeal in October 2017, and two higher instances later upheld the decision.
